quadrajet help
i just purchased a 1966 toronado, I had trouble identifying the carb, as it has no numbers. now my problem is that the throttle body seems wider than the mounting surface of the intake and I am getting a vacuum leak. is there a differance in the throttle body width? and is there an adaptor I can get if there is.

Is it a Quadrajet or something else? As atated, Q-jets have the number stamped vertically on the flat surface drivers side back by the secondaries. As far as I ever heard, all Q-jets have the same width base and mount the same.
I agree, I've never heard of any variation in throttle body mounting dimensions.
Pictures would help.

that's an interesting specimen you have there, no numbers on the bowl-could be a replacement bowl. the air horn is also not original as there is no secondary air valve dampener assembly, not even the boss for the mount behind the driver's side secondary air valve flap. it looks like they replaced both pieces as part of the "patty melt" recall.

Just a thought- you can probably get the correct carb for your car and engine.
But, the carb you have may work fine as long as your base gasket is correct. Pix of what you think the problem is would help. "wider base" is confusing... I have not run into that.

sorry to be vauge it was the base gasket, what was on there was wrong, however now I think it is leaking from the plugs, it is hard to start, but once started it is fine. I am starting my forum search now to determine correct epoxy to use, if anyone knows I am willing to listen.
