A friend had a 66 cutlass with a very similar engine build. He was using a performer manifold, with a 850 Edelbrock Q-Jet and a comp cams 292 grind. Same headers, car made right at 300 rwhp. With a th350 trans, 10 inch converter and 4:10 gears ran 12:50-12:40s pretty consistently.

Sticky tires? If so, you remember what they may have been? Just out of curiosity.

I know it’s a far from optimized combo, but it’s the result of lots of parts scrounging and deal searching. I do plan to do something about the heads at some point in the future. But it’s a lot of fun to drive at the moment. I will visit the chassis Dyno when I get some decent exhaust on it, instead of the pieced together crap I have now.

He usually ran a 28x11.5 Hoosier Quick Time Pro DOT tire. Sometimes he used Mickey Thompson, usually he would run whatever he could find that was cheap or used, or borrowed.

If anybody is curious, an update.

Went to chassis Dyno today. Ran out of time so had to drive it instead of trailer.

Made 300hp/325tq at the wheels all done by 5100. WOT AFR was 11.8 with cutouts open.

Best 1/8 mile pass so far with me still learning has been 7.96@85.6mph with a 1.71 60’

Very nice setup, your engine started life very healthy to begin with, an actual (not rated) 350 gross flywheel HP.

Awesome numbers. Your track performance indicates you are leaving nothing on the table. 300 HP at the wheels with a 3750 LB test weight cant do much better as is....

You've done a helluva job. For comparison sake a 1970 LS6 Chevelle puts out 285 HP to the wheels and 320 LB FT factory correct and flawless.

Matt69olds hit the nail on the head regarding HP and is so thorough in his post that you can pretty much take the 1/4 mile ETs "to the bank" in relation to your cars performance. The 71s 1/8 mile calculates to a 12.60 in the 1/4. 12.40s makes sense when going from a 3.42 to a 4.10

Another update. Went to some used skinnies upfront and junkyard Windstar e-fans.

Result:
7.85@86.5mph w/ 1.69 60’
Best run yet in hottest, most humid conditions yet.
