Pertronix Flame Thrower III and OEM Tach

I just purchased a Pertronix III billet distributor you install in my 68 and new 455 build. I mainly ended up going with this distributor for the stock look and the rev limiter function.

The concern and question I have is that the instructions state that it is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH CURRENT SENSING TACHOMETER. Is the OEM rally pac a “current sensing” tachometer?

I believe your rally pac tach gets its signal from your coil. I always thought the inductive tachometers are current sensing (like a timing light). Wondering if they consider the pulse signal from the coil "current sensing"?

Is anyone running the Pertronix III with the stock tach that can answer this question? Thanks!

The tach gets its signal at the coil- terminal from the Pertronix unit. Its the same signal that triggers the coil. The issue with the Pertronix III is that it provides a multiple spark that may or may not cause issues with your tach. The only way to know is to try it.
