Performance (not High) radiator anyone?

Has anyone had any luck with any all aluminum radiators? I’m currently on my 3rd or 4th from Champion cooling, and its started leaking on me again. Noticed a puddle the other day when I came out the store, and not sure I want to go through them AGAIN. Great customer service, but it seems like I go through one every 3 to 6 months. Anyone have any good companies for this ?

If you want an aftermarket aluminum radiator besides Champion have you considered Mishimoto? You would have to do some measuring to get the right one and pay a premium price but radiators don't get much nicer.

https://www.mishimoto.com/classic/cl...radiators.html

If those are too pricey or you can't find one that would fit you can always get a Summit cheapie, but given your experience with Champion I might be reluctant to do that.

Have you considered having the OE radiator repaired?

You are probably aware of the following, but just in case...
  • Aluminum radiators are easily damaged by stray electric currents. Make sure that all steel parts that contact your radiator have a common ground cable attached to them that also goes to the frame.
  • These are also damaged by mineral-laden water. Ensure you use distilled water as your last rinse and use it to dilute the anti-freeze.
  • A national brand of anti-freeze at a minimum concentration of 30% is required to protect against electrolytic damage from the iron parts of the cooling system.

Why are they leaking? Poor solder/weld joints? Can the radiator flex in its mounts? I know many people who use champion, with zero issues.

Are they getting damaged during the install? Twisted in their mount? I've had my Champion for several years now w/ no issues. Going though 2-3 in 12-18 months indicates it may be some other cause.

Not sure honestly. Ive done the install myself, and when doing it I treated it like the worlds most expensive diamond. The first two had pinhole leaks assuming from the core within a month or so. I used full strength green coolant in it from the get go, and notice the leak when fixing my buddies bike. Same goes for the second, in the exact same place. Now this one is from the opposite side (drivers), but SAME spot.

the only thing it would contact is my fan shroud, which it doesn’t, but no other metal on metal. Im at a loss, and not that I think Champion makes a bad product, just confused as to why I’m having issues. I read great reviews, so I was and still am trying to see the good.

Cold Case and Auto City Classics both offer great 2-core large-tube rads for drop-in GM A-body installs. Both have tanks styled similarly after OEM look.

Each runs about $300

I have experience with both and no leak issues over time.

Never owned a Griffin but many leak issues in reviews. Yeah, either the Cold Case or Autocity for my next rad for the 70S. I need all the help I can get with an overbored 403.
