Once again......

So it looks like I will be going with a Olds 455 again. This will go into my 72 W29. This time around it will be 72 F block .30. I'm thinking of using Probe forged pistons (11.63). I will be using a N-Crank. Looking at Comp Cam's Magnum 305 H or XE 284H. I'm thinking a Holley 850,Air Gap RPM, Hooker Headers. I'm thinking I may give Bernard Modello's version of Pro Comp Alum heads a try.

I will have 2.5 inch Pypes muffler system. th 400, 3500 stall, and shift kit or would a built 2004-r be a better choice for cruising? I have crazy 4.88 gears inside a 12 bolt posi. Old School Lakewood Traction Bars. I would like thoughts and insight on this. What gear should I stepped down too? I want to be able to drive this thing during a Power Tour someday, up to Detroit for the Woodward Cruise, and step onto the strip every once in awhile. If I can obtain 475 plus horsepower out of this I will be happy. Does this combo sound on track for that? I wanted to go roller, but Comp Cam package is too much imo. Looking forward to hearing thoughts on this.

Thanks,
Kino

Why so high on the compression? I'd shoot for around 10.5:1. you can do that with either the Icon or Wiseco pistons. I'd definitely opt for the aluminum heads as well, you'll make your hp number with little to no problem. Otherwise your combo sounds good.
A 3.42 gear is a nice compromise.

I offer custom hyd roller cams with lifters for $725.00 shipped to your door.
Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks and best of luck on your build.

Thanks for you input! I thought that compression level would get me closer to my goal, but if 10.5:1 can do it then I'm all game for that! BTW these V/W pop-ups are making me angry.

Got a few parts in today. I love when new parts come, because it takes my mind off this crappy Chicago style winter. Wiseco pistons and Eagle H-Beam rods. BTW GO FIGHTING IRISH!!!

3.42's work great for me behind the t-400. Sure an extra gear would be nice but it's fine the way it is as I don't run highway to much. If I had a four or five speed trans, then I would want more gear. Kind of a wash.

I decided to stay with the th-400. I think it will be easier on my wallet at the end of the day. Maybe I will try the overdrive whenever I build a 65 Cutlass resto-mod.
