You attach the torque plate to the block prior to honing to simulate the stresses of attaching the head.
Align hone is honing the main saddles. That's a different process.

Ideally the block should be dialed in on the boring table, then the plate attached. Or you can attach the plate after boring. Most shops get about another $50-$60 for that process.

Correct, and most don't.
I hate to say it but I'd ask to see it if says he has one.
I get a lot of guys who contact me with problems on their builds for one reason or another. But most of the time it's simply because the machinist didn't look past the end of their nose, or just didn't care because it wasn't a Chevy or Ford. You don't necessarily need an "Olds" machinist. Just a smart one who cares about his work.

i think you will have problems no matter what.
I don't like to remove the baffles, so I double the thick gaskets with stock covers or you can find tall covers that look stock. It is not the rockers, it is the poly locks. They offer short poly locks, but I don't like them, it seams not enough threads to hold the rockers. At least that is for me and what I have done.

Poly Locks

I've never run with roller rockers before, but plan to on my next engine build. Are the poly locks required for the roller rockers or can you use a lock nut like a cheby motor? Seems to me that this would solve the clearance problem and allow the use of stock valve covers. Thanks!
