The engine tries to start while your turning the key .If it starts it runs maybe a sec. is all . Any ideas what it could be wrong ?

sounds like a fuel issue
Start at the fuel tank and work forward: Gas in tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, carb

Are you saying it stalls as soon as you release the key from the start position?

If so, the resistor wire can be bad to the coil. An easy way to test is to put a jumper wire from the battery + to coil + & see if it starts & then keeps running.
Just remember turning the key off will not stop the engine until you pull the jumper.

More information is needed.
Did you try turning the new distributor at all to find the sweet spot prior to putting a timing light on it?
Did it run after you re-installed the Old distributor ?
You will need to provide more information here, How the engine ran prior to what you have done. What parts have you replaced etc.

What was the problem last year when you couldn't get it started, link below? If you ran a wire from the battery to the batt terminal on the HEI and it still didn't start that eliminated all of the electrical system with the exception of the distributor.

It looks as thou the poster didn't not update his last thread that you added here Oldcutlass. This was in late April 2018. These guys come here for help, which is fine, many enjoy assisting with their knowledge.
However, when the poster cannot respond with an update, that doesn't sit well with some here.
Your last post in his other thread was left to guessing what kind of help the thread provided him.
Here again, back to the same point he was at almost 1 year ago.??

jordan845... How did you remedy the issue a year ago you didn't explain, nor reply if the information provided from our CO members here helped your situation at all.
What are you expecting to resolve here, you give very vague information to the issue/ssss with no feedback from the assistance you were given in the past.

Advance the timing a bit. With the engine off look down into the carb, operate the throttle and see if you get 2 solid squirts of fuel.

Does it have the original timing chain set? Maybe it jumped time. There is no way to tell now; since the dist has been swapped and moved around the only way to know for sure is to pull the front cover and check. Think about when the no start first occurred. The timing chain usually jumps during shutdown or on decel after a hard accel.

No fuel at all , i got carb last June from autozone and it run good . I wouldn't believed it would have screwed up this soon , but the good new is that they said they would replace it . gs72 i pull the timing and check the chain and gears and they are good .

Do you have spark? If you look down into the carb and operate the throttle do you see 2 solid sprays of fuel?

Then it would most likely be a timing issue. Make sure your firing order is correct and try advancing it a few degrees at a time. Keep your body parts away from the carb while cranking.

It was the timing . I was setting it up like for points , when it was should have been setup for HEI . When I got it setup for HEI it ran great , I set on 12 degree does that sound about right ?

You can go higher, 15* is probably good until you really want to dial it in.

The engine is 10 to 1 , roller cam .523 in and .537 ex and full roller rocker , tor intake with 3/4 space . c head 2.11 in and 1.73 ex , w z ex manifolds and a Qject . tran is a zf 6s-40 6 speed with over drives corvette front and rear end setup with 3.07 gears. find drive 1.53 . Is this a fair good setup ?

A lot of people would give a reproductive body part for a setup like that. I'm going to back track a bit and recommend you set your timing at 13 (without vacuum advance) which should give you a 34* total advance. Connect your vacuum advance unit and it should run very well close to 50* at light cruise.
