notched pistons

notched pistons

Today I removed the heads (B) from a 425 toro engine .Can someone advise me please
a. if oversize pistons are also notched also
b. are these notched (small v) pistons original or could these also be aftermarket ?/

Those are stock pistons. Most pistons that are oversized, have the over size stamped on them like .030. The notch goes to the front off the engine.

Edited...I thought you were talking about valve notches...

thanks 442 harv.That means without having done a bore measurement ,I have more room to play with .Looks as though I may need that room .Pulled the sump and there was roughly 3 litres of emulsified oil/water and right at the sump plug, when laid out was a handful of metal particles fom say 3 mm to 8 mm --very ugly .The engine is seized --surprise surprise but the bores which I can see have no scoring or even lip at the top.--just a bit o carbon .Will post some pics of this ugliness when I can

pic of block as being stripped --now unseized after a night in kerosene -enough grease on here to compete with athabasca tar sands .
Crank looks great bar #6 which has a series of small grooves on it .
Be looking for new valves ,cam n all top end stuff as some point
