I believe the crossover plugs that I have in my heads were the culprits in preventing the manifold from seating properly. Part of one was not quite flush with the head surface. Got it back together and no leaks. Need to finish the hood. The car actually ran pretty good on the road.

Dan, I think whenever you get yours together mine breaks...we need to stop this back and forth. I've got a water passage leak that's seeping out of the middle / bottom head bolt. Compression test is ok, so I think it's just seeping from the water port to the bolt hole...they are really close together. Still, another thing I gotta mess with.

If I have to do head gaskets again I'm just gonna o-ring the damn thing

Yeah it's always something. Good luck with yours.
Mine's not perfect yet, still a couple of bugs to work out. I may have to re-jet the carbs again. Running a little rich, smokes when I step on it a little just when the second carb kits in. Burns a little oil also on start up. Oil tends to pool in the cylinders when the car sits, that's what I noticed after pulling the plugs and looking in the cylinders.

Mine's not perfect yet, won't ever be perfect. I may have to re-jet the carbs again. Running rich, smokes when I step on it a little just when the second carb kits in. Burning a little oil also on start up. Oil tends to pool in the cylinders when the car sits even for a short time. Course my funds are bone dry so no more money to put into it anymore.
I know how that is. I'm trying to make the BOP on Oct. 26...if this thing needs head gaskets I'm not gonna make it. In fact, it'll be sitting for a while. The wife has yanked the budget for the car so everything I do now is $100 or less per month. One head gasket was $117, plus and intake gasket, etc. Glad yours is running mostly good

I posted earlier but deleted. The hood is on, bolted not pinned like I thought I was going to have to do. The only thing is with the scoop attached the hood won't open all the way but enough to peek inside.
I need to finish the edges of the hole and paint it one of these days.

That looks so awesome! Can you take a pic of what it looks like from the driver's seat with the hood on?

Thanks for the compliments. Here's a pic from inside. I'll take one from the driver's seat.
