New Intake

Figured I'd try something different, actually I've always wanted one. May the fun begin, tuning that is. I'm in more for the look anyways.

Steve, It ran fine, actually started right up after finally getting fuel to it (need that electric pump). I guess I didn't put enough RTV where the block meets the manifold and it pissed oil out the back. I found this out after taking it for a spin, the car is very noticeable now with that scoop.

Well the intakes off and I figured it's a good time to paint the motor so I ordered some bronze paint. Not correct for a 455 but period correct for the car and better than the color now.

What did you do for the hole in the hood? Looks really cool with the tunnel ram setup.

I haven't got around to the hood but I plan just cutting a larger hole of course but try to make it fit where it's not just a big rectangle or square and re-enforcing the fiberglass. I had bought a cowl scoop for my previous setup that I need to get rid of.
Thanks, it does look cool I think, it drew a lot of attention the short time I had it on the road so far. It does block my vision somwhat.

Don't kill a real 442 hood! Check out vfn fiberglass for hoods with and without scoops built into them.

Oh no, I got my real hood in my basement that got some damage in the drivers side rear corner when it flew open while driving one day. Sad because it is a rust free perfect hood or was anyway. I got a VFN hood now that I'm going to cut again.

The motor will look better now with a better color. I was going to do bronze but the blue paint came first in the mail. Hope to have it back together Wednesday.

The orange pieces are just there to paint around of course. The blue I got from Rocket Racing which I hope is correct. It's labeled as Olds. Oh well it's better than the crap that was on before.

It's a little light but you're right, much better than before. I think the Supercars Unlimited is the closest. I just painted the convertible engine with Fusik blue and it's too light also. Oh well, who cares! You have a SCOOP STICKING OUT OF YOUR HOOD! BADASS!

I just painted it with Eastwood's Aluma Blast paint. Got some info from "real57vetteguy" that I'll have to try out. Got an extra valve cover to try it out on.

Sorry I can't resist posting pics. The only thing left to do is add oil and trans fluid and hook up the exhaust. Then I got to mess with the hood.
Thanks for all the kind words.

Once I clean up my old manifold (Edelbrock 065) I'll be selling it along with the Carters.

Dan, I wanna steal one of your ideas...where did you get your passenger side breather? Is it a PCV?

There's a matching breather for the driver side. Yes its PCV.

Love the new look the color looks awesome in there.

What traction bars are you using in the back? And what front springs do you have?

Lakewood bars. They're an old set that a buddy had that never been used and he let me use them. The springs in front are the stock springs with a 2" spacer. The car has 60K on it and the stock springs looked fine. The rear are Moog 5377.

I've never used those type on coil springs, thats why I'm asking. I was thinking of using the old style ladder bars on mine. After looking at your tunnel ram setup, I might go back to the hi rise manifold for mine.

I cut the hole and the hood fits nice so far without hinges. I need to check with it hooked up to the hinges, may have to trim the edges a little then fill in the edges.

Hey 67....Real cool. Im a huge fan of TRams. I have a question. Do you think the bug screen in the fly catcher will be a restriction? Id be curious to see if there’s a difference between running with and without. Only reason I ask is my bud had a BB Camaro with a T.Ram with a very similar screen. We removed the catcher and there was a noticeable difference on the high end. We later removed the screen.

I think air should pass through pretty well. It might be worth a try with the mesh removed. It might be a while before I can try it out.

Well I guess three times a charm. I can't keep the water jackets from leaking. The manifold will have to come off again. Might have to mill the manifold to make sure it's flat or have it checked anyway. I don't know, I do know that I'm tired of messing with it.
I may need a thicker gasket, my heads were milled on the intake side. The manifold fit pretty well dry, I'll have to check it again sometime. Need to tend to the red car now.

Who knows I may just dig into it again soon, it's not expensive to fix.
