Getting ready to pull the engine from the doner car.
No smoke,no bad leaks,no knocks or ticks,good oil pressure.
Valvetrain looks clean

Just so you know those heads have been done (redone?), well at least the spring retainers have been changed. Those are not stock. It's also very clean which is nice

Thanx...yes I know...the engine has a mild cam,performer intake,edlbrook carb ,headers and
msd 6a/msd dist and I don't know what else ....
it was supposidly rebuilt around 5-7,000 miles ago.
Do you know what kind of retainers they are ?
Anything special/good ?
This is my first time playing with an Olds engine.
Thanks,
Matt

I have no idea what brand they are. My only concern would be that they are depressed in the center. Because the stock rocker is so wide I would make sure that there is no interference between the retainer and the rocker.
You stated the engine is quiet with no tics so it appears to be fine clearance wise

"Correct. Note how the [pre-'68 PS] bracket bolts to the head and intake only, so there's no affect due to the taller deck height. "
=======================

I don't think that's true. Pretty sure the lowest hole in the PS bracket goes over a short boltstud at the block, under which is your battery (-) cable. I find it hard to believe I nailed Joe P on a detail though. :-)

I guess you could do w/o that one fastener if you need to use the SB pre-68 PS brackets on a BB.

Also notice the alternator bracket where the strut that goes to the water pump is now bolted to the hole in the "Y" bracket that's furthest inboard. By the way, this is a 1967 400, which is externally identical to the 455.

The issue isn't BBO/SBO, it's water pump length. There are three different lengths and you must use the one that matches your accessory brackets and pulleys.

Yes. Factory Olds fuel pumps are "upside down" as compared to Chevy, but some aftermarket pumps may use the same configuration as Chevy pumps. They all bolt up to any 1964-1990 Olds block.
Joe,
You wouldn't happen to know the part number for CARDONE reman water pump (1967 no a/c, short neck) would you ?
I am searching sites and they don't specify long,med or short neck like you show in your picutres.
I went on Cardones site and they only list 1971 and up.I am assuming it is the same part for 1967.it came up 58-294 for reman and 55-11150 for new.

===================
Two separate issues.

Yes, you need the correct WP length to match your pulleys which starts with what PS pump are you using- pre-68 or 1968+, basically.

However, when you take your 330's PS pump and bracket, which attaches to the head AND THE BLOCK at the gnd wire boltstud... you will find that the SB PS bracket did not stretch to accommodate, and you can now bolt to the head fasteners but the lower hole at the BLOCK will not match. So, do w/o that one fastener, or cobble it up, or procure a BB pre-68 PS bracket. I could be wrong, and the block hole was moved up on the BB to match the distance from the head bolt holes.

My WP database has little info on Cardone or other aftermarket PN's... but I do see the following generalities:

5.1 x 2.0 WP apps:
1964 330 with "wrong-side" inlet
65-67w/o AC or HDC; a/k/a/ WP2048 OR P596
AirTex lists the AW773 = 5.1 x 2.0" WP as good for:
68-69 350, 455: Cust. Cruiser, 88 98, (w/o AC or H.D. Cooling)
65-67 330, 425: Cust. Cruiser, 88 98 [MORE BELOW ==> ]
1970 350, 455: Cutlass, Supreme, F85, VC, 442 (w/o AC, H.D. Cooling or Rad., OAI)
68-69 350, 400, 455: Cutlass, Supreme, F85, VC, 442 (w/o AC or H.D. Cooling)
65-67 V8 330, 400: Cutlass, Supreme, F85, VC, 442
70 455: Toronado (w/o AC, H.D. Cooling or Rad., Outside Air Induction)
68-69 455: Toronado (w/o Air Cond. or H.D. Cooling)
66-67 425: Toronado

5.1 x 1.8 is the goofy transition era WP
71-72 w/ W30 and/or 3.73 gears [but not W30 w/AC]

5.6 x 2.0 is basically
68-70 with HDC which may come with a W-pkg or with AC, or just because you wanted HDC.

5.6 x 1.8
seem to be for 70-72 SB/Non-HDC apps
71 72 73 74 OLDSMOBILE 442 88 98 w/o AC [no-AC]
AKA NUMBER 2232 interchange

6.1 x 1.8
Far and away the most commonly seen, this is the ubiquitous #4 and #3 caastngs, and others.
71-72 w/ AC or HDC [including W30 w/AC]
Hastings #WP-583
AW1120 Airtex, Interchange #251-231, [T&J #41120, 55-21118 ?]

6.1 x 2.0
Not known to exist.
I can make you one, I guess
