Need converter advice
I need some advice in choosing a stall converter for my 2004r conversion, I have a level 2 2004r trans from bowtie over drives as well as a 2600 10" stall from them, I'm thinking that may be too big for what I want it for, I found a deal on a new tci 242600 12" stall that claims to be 400-500 rpms above stock.
I am trying to make my 72 olds cutlass as steetable as possible, I currently have a th400 with a 2800 stall, 3.73 gears, 26.5" tires, 455 .030 over l2323 pistons, ported C heads, about 9-1 compression, clay smith solid flat tappet cam, 520/520 lift, 240/240 @ .050, 292/292 adv, .020 lash, 108 sep installed at 106, air gap dual plane intake, holley sniper, has about 11.5 inches of vacuum at idle 60kpa on screen, tuned to run on 87 octane e10 gas.
would It be wise to go with that +400-500 from stock stall or should I stick with my 2600 stall?

I know the cam is too big for the compression but I'm definitely satisfied driving it around town, (runs on 87 e10, stays cool, runs and idles smooth at 15/1, cruises 16/1 with no pinging, just seems to be short on power above 5k 13/1)
wouldn't the 2600 be similar to my 2800 with the higher first gear in the 2004r?
Grand Nationals and the 442 came factory with a 2800 converter. A good quality converter won’t feel mushy at part throttle. The 10 inch Coan converter in my car flashes to 4200, and drives like a stock converter. I would drive the car for a while before swapping to something else. Besides, if you have a lockup converter on the highway it won’t matter.
Richen the WOT down to 12.5 or so and see what happens.
Do you have this problem with your sniper/455 builds? Any experience with the progressive linkage? I live near LA so pretty much all my driving is stop and go and hills.

redbaron, I just purchase a torque converter from EDGE RACING TORQUE CONVERTERS in Simi Valley. They were highly recommended by my tranny rebuilder. The owner Andre educated me on torque converters, 68 Chevelle 500cid BBC/TH400. Can't wait to let 'er rip.
