My 67 Idle with 455

Is this a stock cam? It's a 70 model 455

It sounds like it has an aftermarket cam in it.

Works for me. Nice sounding. Generally, if you hook up a vacuum gauge to the stock engine/cam, you'll expect a vacuum of ~18"Hg. Aftermarket cam (generally) would drop your vacuum down below 15"Hg.

Maybe just me, but the idle sounds a little fast to me. If the idle is a little fast, it makes it a little more difficult to judge how much cam you have in it? Conversely, if you have purposely set the idle that high just to keep it from stalling, you probably have an aftermarket in it. Just my two cents.

Sounds like a more aggressive aftermarket cam to me.

I've owned a 66 442 with its original 400 and 71 98 with its original 455. Both engines were stock, the 442 had Flowmasters and the 98 was factory exhaust. Neither sounded anything like yours.

I was thinking maybe a W30 cam. But it does have lower than stock vacuum, 14-15 inches at idle. Looking forward before too long installing my new Lunati VooDoo hydraulic roller cam 221/229 549/565 112 LSA on a 106 ICL. Got one more car show to attend before tear down.

Idle is a touch high as mentioned. Also, the vacuum gauge will tell more. Sounds good 👍

It has decent power but off a little from what I think it should have. I'm blaming the J heads on it for that. I have a brand new set of Edelbrocks going on it with the cam change which should bring it up to par.

Are the duration #'s at .050?

If they're not, then that cam is significantly milder than factory.

These days "advertised" duration is pretty much a thing of the past. Any reputable grinder posts their figures @ 0.050.

Maybe a combination of too much cam and not enough compression?

Sure does sound cool, though.

Yes, and if I remember correctly are close to your cam numbers. Your LSA was 110?

You have a good memory, my cam does have a 110 LSA, 226/230 duration at .050, and 496/512 Lift. For the benefit of those following, my cam numbers are in a '67 400ci E block, C heads, with the heads professionally ported/polished.
