I have a 66 cutlass convertible with a 68 455 and a th400 trans and have a problem I can't seem to figure out. the mounts appear to be identical but the engine is leaning to the drivers side by as much as 1/2 an inch pushing the left drivers side valve cover into brake booster. is there something I'm missing? Do they make two different height mounts for each side? the right passenger side of engine is higher than the left. thought about cutting the hole for through bolt higher to level but don't think I should have to. Anyone else ever experience this?
Hopefully you didn't get new "455" motor mounts...
Assuming you have the original frame pads, you need Anchor 2261 motor mounts or the equivalent. The mounts need to match the frame pads, not the block. All 1964-90 Olds blocks have the motor mount bolt holes in exactly the same place. Be sure you have the correct original frame pads, which should look like the "Type 1" pads in this photo.
From what i can see i have the type 1 pads from the picture you posted and the motor mounts look identical but the engine leans to the drivers side quite a bit. i have only owned the car for several months and didn't change anything. it was like this when i got it. could the frame be off ? bent ? don't understand why this is like that. unless there is a shorter height mount i can put on the pass side it looks like i'll have to modify the mount to shorten it.
edit: if both mounts and pads are the same shouldn't the engine be level?
The car did not have asymmetric motor mounts from the factory. WHICH rubber motor mounts did you use? The 2328 and 2261 mounts look similar until you put them next to each other. Post detailed photos of the parts.
should i get the 2261 mount or the2328 mounts. since this engine is obviously not from this car. is one of those mounts have a shorter height than the other. I ask because do i match the mount to the car or the engine. i would assume the car.
hi Joe, upon further inspection it looks like i have the type 3 pads. can those be used in my application with the same mounts you recommended or is there another alternative. my concern is if the new mounts are tall then i'm going to have a problem with the air cleaner contacting the hood. i haven't looked yet but is it hard to get the type 1 pads?
Thanks joe thanks so much for the info i'm not a hot rod expert by any means but just trying to correct a number of issues I'm encountering i don't know much if any of the history of the car and am piecing through a number of things that don't match. I'll start with the mounts. Rex
