LS1 power vs Big Block Olds power

Can I get some opinions on these quotes. I am building a 455 Olds motor for my 81 Trans am:

Me:
I think big my LS1 camaro is pushing 400 so I wanted more.

Other Guy:
Your LS1 lists 400 hp but it’s making the power much higher up in the rpm range and it doesn’t have much low end torque. The more torque you have the more power you have at your disposal and will feel seat of the pants. I’ll give you an example. I raced a Camaro with an LS1 at 400 hp and I had a 325 hp Olds motor in a G body and I beat the Camaro. I only had 325 hp but I had 375 lb ft of torque.

Just want some other opinions

Torque is what will get you down the track first! The 455 is a Torque monster.

Torque is twisting force,
And HP is torque with the factor of time involved.
You want BOTH, REALLY!
