LiquiMoly 10W-60

Anyone here running LiquiMoly 10w-60 in their 455s? If so, any feedback?

I've been using Mobil1 15w-50 and it's been good but wondering about the LiquiMoly

Why would you need anything that thick? Engine worn-out?

I don't have any experience with the LiquiMoly, but have had good experience with the Mobil 1. That large viscosity range (10W-60) must require a lot of chain molecule additive to achieve. Five decades ago I tried a molybdenum oil additive and most of it ended up in my filter. Without additional information, I'd go with the Mobil 1.

I use the LiquiMoly additive in all my cars, but that's it. I don't use the oil itself. That's some pretty thick oil, though...

All you need is an oil that has the correct friction additive built into the oil. Not sure about Mobile 1 for flat tappet cams, I use VR1 with no issues.

Just exploring options. Still using 15w-50 Mobil 1 and oil pressures are good. When hot at 200-210F oil temps, around 50-60psi when at 4,000 RPM+ and about 15-20 psi at idle (750-850 rpm).

Just wondering how the 10w-60 would be when pushed above 220F (highway summer driving) and what oil psi I would see. It's the summer racing/highway driving that gets oil pretty hot (220F+)

Hmm ... with such heavy oil, you'd think you'd have better pressure at idle.

If I throttle it to 800-1,000 RPM, the pressure goes to 25 psi+. Its just at idle the race cam doesn't idle smoothly and it the RPM gauge bounces below 750 RPM sometimes. At highway or high RPM speeds, the oil pressure stays 50-60psi when hot.

I don't think there is a problem as 455s tend to run low idle oil pressures.

I’d leave well enough alone. Here’s why, the larger the weight range of the oil, typically the less pressure stable it is, contrary to popular belief. In other words, a 20 W-50 will typically be more stable than a 10W-60. The wider the range the more parafins in the oil.

There are many oil comparisons on YouTube, you'd be surprised how well Walmart oil does against the big brands. The big revelation for me was the oil filter comparison where the guy cuts a bunch of oil filters open to show how they're made.

What should the low oil pressure warning light be set to at idle? I have a SpeedHut guage so I can set it to whatever parameter I want for the warning light.

Should it be 10psi or 15psi at idle?

I was on the Corvette Forum and found out the C8 engine using 10w-40 is around 18psi when at hot idle.

Even more surprising. When at 6,000 RPM +, and hot, the oil pressure never goes above 46psi according to the ECM data tables people are posting online.

10w40 is way to thick for a C8. What is that guy thinking. Have you seen how small the cam phaser ports are. Also, newer engines have a bypass oild pump to keep the oil pressure consistant. Most are 30-35psi no matter what RPM.

The GM factory & GM engineers actually recommend 20w-50 synthetic for the new C8, if you are tracking/racing it.
The 0w-40 is standard fill for all new C8's.

Per the GM owners manual:
"0W-40 dexos2 engine oil is approved for both track and street use. 15W-50 full synthetic engine oil may also be used for track use, but after track use must be changed back to 0W-40 dexos2 for street use."

So 40 weight oil is NOT too thick per the GM engineers. It's actually the thinnest hot oil allowed. 50 weight is recommended for tracking/racing. If you run a 5w-30 weight oil and track it, your warranty can be voided. GM engineers don't want anything lower than 40 weight oil for track use. Ideally, 50 weight for track use.

" If 5W-30 dexos1 is used, it must be changed to 0W-40 dexos2 or 15W-50 full synthetic engine oil for track use."
