Intake gaskets...

I had a problem with my intake gaskets. Edelbrock heads, and intake. Any ideas why this happened and how to prevent this? I got new felpros again but the cheap mr gaskets were recommended . Either way i just dont want any more problems. Help????!!!!????
Lol dang. I cant post a picture from my phone. Well, they split and pushed out and gave a nasty acuum leak. I will try to post a pic some other way....

You must've had a backfire to blow them out!
You did re-torque again after warming the motor, didn't you?
Lock washers??
Virgin aluminium expands and contracts a lot!

No, it has never backfired. Not even when we dynoed it. I did retighten them after we dynoed it. The gaskets are spilt at the bolt holes and at the top of the port and pushed out. I have one of those little K and N breathers on both rocker covers too so there shouldnt be pressure inside the engine. Maybe i should have stayed on the torquing the bolts more but none were really loose when i pulled them. Wish i could post pix from my phone to this page. Can anyone tell me how to post from the Iphone to this site?

Is the manifold straight? What did you torque the bolts to?

I assumed it was straight. It was new. I will have to check. I dont know what they were origionally torqued to. My engine guy did it and did the retorque and check valve lash after dyno. It looks like that silver rtv kinda shrunk the gasket and pulled it but that seems kinda hard to believe

And in what sequence were they torqued??
Supposed to be inside out.

Weren't the stock gaskets cork? I think that's what was used on my car, i have the edelbrock performer manifold and it hasn't blown out yet.

I can check this evening though. I'd like to eventually rebuild my engine/heads so this is going to be good information.

It was possibly over torqued. Usually it pushes out the end seals. Change them and see what happens.

Boy, I've never had this happen with a stock-style turkey tray gasket.

Just sayin'...

Lol, that would be tuff to do to the almost indestructable turkey tray. However, since the turkey tray from fel-pro is misstamped, I've seen other issues along the way!

My valley trey style gasket leaked. I had to reseal it with individual gaskets.

Well im going to use the ultra blue on the end seals . I wonder if torquing them from the inside out was the problem

that doesn't look like a gasket failure or a torque issue. that looks like the gasket was NOT in it's correct place once the manifold was set onto the engine. the manifold moved the gasket and it was torqued down in that position. IMHO...

There was some sort of spray gasket adhesive used to glue the gasket down. I wiped that all clean with laquer thinner... Trouble is, the guy that built my engine is in jail right now for supposedly raping a young girl so i don't forsee any future contact with him.... Im just trying to figure out what happened so it don't happen again...
