Installing PCV fitting into W-30 intake

Hello,
I am looking for help on how to install the PCV fitting into my W-30 intake. Can anyone help with this?
I have tried lightly tapping it into the hole, but it won't go.
I am wondering whether to widen the hole or shave the fitting.
Why do you think it would need any modification at all - it should just tap right in.
Thanks for any help you can give!

You may try a little motor oil
and then a nice solid TAP with
your hammer.

Installing PCV fitting into W-30 intake

You're too funny! I would hope to have enough sense NOT to pound a PCV valve into the manifold, but I guess I didn't clarify.
The W30 manifold came with this extra nipple and I have the elbow, PCV and hose to the carb, I just didn't want to pound too hard to get that fitting/nipple into the hole in the front of the manifold.
I'll try the motor oil and see if that helps. If not, any other ideas?
It's appreciated!

Good idea Joe. I'll try and let you know.
BTW, the hole I.D. and fitting O.D. are virtually the same.

So, you have an OAI or MT type intake, with the PCV boss, but the nipple is not installed? Is that what is going on?

I searched diligently for a steel intake nipple like that, to no avail, in making replica '69 H/O intakes. Ended up making my own, what a PITA. Still making them to this day, still cannot find a pre-made 1/2" diameter press-in perple nerple.

So, to answer your question, ye need to first measure the part and the hole. Not with a calibrated eye or tape measure but something on the order of 0.001" - vernier or digital or dial calipers.

The tube can't be more than oh 0.001" larger than the hole. Smaller by .001-.002 would be better. It's probably nominal 1/2" = 0.500". You may need to ream the hole to 0.500-0.502" to fit the nipple.

grind a SLIGHT chamfer on the tube if need be and/or cut a SLIGHT chamfer on the hole edge. check fit. Apply sealer such as form-a-gasket #2 non-hardening, and tap the nipple into place. Use a support/driver such as a close fitting bolt [7/16" probably] if need be.

Yes it is both an OAI and MT type intake and yes the boss needs to be installed.
BTW, Joe, I received the intake with the car, so I don't know if it's a repro W30 intake, although, it does have the winter snow flake in the casting.
Octania, I guess I'll have to go out and get a few tools I'll only use once, but better than ruining the manifold.
Does anyone repop a W30 aluminum intake?

Oh, so it's an ALUMINUM factory intake
I must have missed that part.

If you don't want to spend a pittance on new tools for a 1-time job, then consider dropping it off at the machine shop. Any shop will have a 1/2" reamer and can easily install such a part, and then you need not worry about any of it. I just can't imagine not using a good excuse like that to procure some new tools. You can get a dial caliper at Shipwreck Tools for like $10 right now, and once you have one you will find uses for it, on any project.

Maybe there's a nice youtube video showing how to do step, depth, hole center measurements, etc.
