Ignition setup

Hi guys,

i'm thinking about getting a whole new ignition setup for my 71 455,
but when i look at the Summit site i see a lot of different products.
What are you guys using?

My mind goes out to a HEI ignition but in that case, do i need the MSD ignition controller box or the MSD blaster ignition coils, or both?

And which Spark wire set is best to use?

Thanks in advance!

Pieter/Dutch455

You don't need a controll box to run an HEI if you want to upgrade from points. A stock (or stock type)Olds HEI Dizzy will have the Coil on top of the rotor cap. Aftermarket ones you can get with external coils an put it wherever you wan't. If you do decide to get a MSD down the road just know that You can not run Solid Core Spark Plug Wires with an MSD box.

What do you have now, and why do you want to change it?

I'm using a Mallory Unilite with a Flamethower external coil. It has an Accel spiral core wire set. No external control box needed and it fits older engine and manifold combinations. 9.5 degrees initial advance.
