Identify Olds Engine

Does anyone know of a place to get information on Olds engine blocks. I have an Olds 455 engine that has been placed in 1978 GMC motorhome which is not what came out of the factory with, would have been Olds 403. I have been to GM Heritige Center. They sent me to Power Train Contsct Center where the only information they could provide is that the block number I have was produced some time between 1968 and 1971. Any suggestion of where else to go?

Let us know what specifically it is you wish to know/learn about your 455 engine please.

What I would like to find out is when GM built the engine was it placed in a vehicle or was it built to be used as a replacement engine/crate engine.

The block casting number will tell you exactly what the engine is. The VIN derivative stamp will tell you the model year and will give you some idea of where it originally came from.

Casting number:

VIN derivative stamp

Also, I deleted your duplicate post and gave your thread a more relevant title. You're more likely to get a response to your question if the thread title gives people an idea of the topic as opposed to your name.

Not mentioned above, if originally destined for installation in a vehicle it will have the VIN derivative stamped; if a replacement, marine, or irrigation engine it would have something other than a VIN derivative on that pad. All 455 CID blocks will have the casting number with the suffix "F".
