Trying to identify this engine....

Just drug this out of a barn, where I bought my 442.

How do I identify what this truly is?

I see C heads...

I see the gusset in the timing chain shelf.

My guess, 1968-69 455??

What is the casting number on top of the shelf?

Check out this thread for clues on how to id the block

A barn? You sure that hasn't been in a lake?

Here's an old thread that has some places to look that will help you key it out. Also the loose fuel pump and water pump sitting on the engine are from a different engine. The fuel pump looks like mid-50's, can't see enough of the loose water pump to guess on it. John

Engine

Well, from looking at the casting information, and the stamped Vin, it appears I have a "69 455? There are remnants of an old red paint job on this engine. It still has oil in it, with no coolant in the pan.
