Well you want a carb that your engine will use all if not most of the cfms there's an equation I can't remember but it also depends on build and most people use hei I like mallory and msd but they exxxxxpendive but again depends on build

You can use a Rochester, or a square bore carb in the 750 cfm range. I don't know if you prefer a mechanical secondary or a vacuum. It also depends on how your going to drive it. For the distributor an Hei will probably work fine.

Any pros or cons regarding mechanical vs vacuum?

Mechanical double pumpers shoot a lot of initial fuel since you have dual accelerator pumps. The vac. Secondaries work off vac. So it goes by what the engine demands.

I'd do either a Holley Street Avenger 770 or QF 780.

Since you have a manual transmission you might want to look into a mechanical secondary carbs if your looking for performance.

X2. If you go with the manual, I'd do a QF 850 Double pump.

The problem with a vacuum secondary is when you let off the gas and shift gears at WOT the vacuum comes back and can close the secondaries. With the mechanical you dont have that problem.

Look on Ebay for the 750 Holley there are tons of used ones and Holley are pretty easy to rebuild. You can buy new HEI's for pretty cheap from Summit. With a 4 speed and a nice gear like you have I'd use a double pumper as long as gas milage is secondary to performance.

Not to be a smart *** but you must shift gears awfully slow.

Did you happen to mention what year car and engine you have and what you are starting with, or did I just miss it? Does it presently have an intake, carb and distributor? Most people on this site and the Pontiac site, for that matter will recommend a Quadrajet and a stock manifold, especially if it is mainly for the street. If you already have those items, it takes a lot less money to make them work.
