HEI Distributer

Need to know if I have an HEI Dis out of a olds 350 if it would work for a 455. I was able to get it placed but doesn't seem to drop the last 1/4 inch.

Same distributor. Sounds like the teeth aren't meshing. May I suggest you get it to start seating (distributor shaft starts to mesh with the cam gear and won't turn) and GENTLY tap on the distributor shaft with a rubber or rawhide mallet.

Sounds like the oil pump shaft is not lined up. You may have to bump the engine or turn it with a socket on the front damper . Just turn it a little until the shaft lines up. Make sure you have the rotor line up with #1 plug wire when it seats. I don't think beating on it is going to help.

Gene,

Good thinking! But I wasn't suggesting "beating on it". I had problems seating mine and a little "friendly persuasion" helped.

And remember that the distributor shaft rotates slightly as it seats completely.
