Heater Box - Should I leave alone?

While I’ve got the motor out I’m getting ready to detail the engine compartment. It is an AC car but most of the AC system are not installed and probably won’t be anytime soon. Heater box (not sure of name) looks pretty sad. Nice and easy to access with motor out. Wondering if I will regret not doing anything about it now. Heat works but with a hole that big it might just be the heat from my headers! If I add one more thing to my list right now I will have to move my threads to the major projects and builds section.

I would either get after it now, or pull it now and go heat delete depending on your needs/wants

I could see myself installing a vintage air system in the near future. Would deleting the factory AC and putting delete plate make that an easier mod in the future?

That's there so you can easily get a wrench on the rear valve cover bolt😁

i bet if you call vintage air you could buy the delete plate now. Keep in mind once you install the delete plate, you lose the heater also.

Thanks Matt that’s what I needed to know. I was hoping to use a delete plate and get it ready for vintage air in the future. Didn’t know that meant losing the heater though. That’s a pretty big step for us guys that live at 7000 feet.

I'd cover it with a fiberglass patch in the meantime.

Here’s a potential other option. According to the description I can install this cover and retain heat/defrost.

Heater delete done and firewall plate ordered. Unsure of what to do with heater hoses. Connect the two hoses with a 3/4 - 5/8 adapter or cap off the intake nipples?

I ended up getting the firewall plates instead of the AC delete cover, so now I need to figure out how to remove the heater core and the enclosure which protrudes into the engine compartment in order to mount the plate flat against the firewall. Is this a straight-forward endeavor? I'm tempted to order the actual cover since it won't require removal of anything from under the dash but if I can use the plates I already have that would be better.
