ac and heater removal

i have a 72 cutlass and the ac parts and blower motor are missing, is there any reason not to remove the ac/heater vent box parts from under the dash? if i do ac/heat again i will do vintage air. i also want to replace fire wall insolation and carpet and it looks like it needs to come out anyways. thanks mitchell

Do you want a defogger/defroster? Many of the retrofit kits cannot do those functions...
IF you just want those and heat and vent, then just get one of those AC delete plates and a blower motor and wheel and resistor.

I was thinking of removing the AC unit completely and make mine a non-AC car, if I remove the AC unit under the hood attached to the firewall, is there hole behind it and if so how do I cover it? aftermarket plate? its a convertible car and I dont care for AC and rather make it look clean under the hood.

Yep, there will be a hole in the firewall and in the cowl.
There is ac AC delete plate available aftermarket that uses your current blower to still allow defog, heat, and vent positions. It is a shallow unit - about 2.5" deep.

Try this at OPG...

A bit costly but should work easily. Probably needs a hole cut out in the main airflow for the resistor.
