Hello, Im having trouble finding headers to fit my 65 delta 88 *has the 425* I was looking at jegs and vic hubbards web sites but no luck.

I was curious if any knows where to get headers for this car/engine?

And also is the 65 delta 88 interchangeable with another car. It seems on my last project car I couldn't find parts for a 74'duster but the 74 duster had the same body as another more popular Plymouth that i was able to get parts for.

As far as I know there are NO out of the box headers for this car....maybe check Kooks Headers...a relatively new but expensive header company.

 

With the steering box behind the front crossmember it is very hard to fit headers. Headers by Ed makes custom headers and would probably do them for you.

No luck at Kooks and it seems that headers by eds got his domain name for his website bought out from under him. But i only saw good reviews for him and his header kit. If anyone else needed a way to contact Ed here is his Business info:

Any BBO header will fit on the passenger side, but it is the drivers side that gives problems. I think the closest match would be Vega (i think) because they are also rear steer cars, but you would still have to modify them quite a bit.

 

The 73-74 Omega is also rear-steer. Are there headers for an Olds motor in that chassis?

I've also wondered if the headers for a 65-70 Impala with SBC could be modified to work. The SBC has exhaust port spacing that's similar to an Olds. Obviously the flange is different.

 

Doug's Headers makes headers for the late 60s to mid 70s B bodies. They are pricey though.

 

yes ,they are pricey .Summit racing stocks them --might pay to give them a call.
An aside --- pertronix now owns dougs headers

 

Tried summit, they have a great selection of headers but still none for a 65. Heads By Ed has a video that shows you how to make your own headers, i might look into this later but for now i just wanted to toss the headers on while the engine is out for new motor mounts.

This is the company I was thinking of. I thought they sold headers for the older Deltas. It might be worthwhile calling them and asking if it would fit your year. I think B bodies were pretty much the same from 1965-1976. Joe would probably know for sure.

B bodies were the same basicly from 65 to 70.....I believe Hooker lists Headers for 71 and up full size cars....Maniflods are the way to go unless you have a race car....less gasket problems, clearance problems and hassles.

 

Thats what I found and they only list from 71 and newer, I think 65-70 are the same and after that they got changed

 

I guess the easiest thing to do would be to go to manifolds like Oldsmaniac said. I wasn't sure about the Doug's Headers website, sorry.

 

1965-1970 are rear steer, 1971-up are front steer.

 

Could you recommend some place to get nice manifolds from? This is my first run at upgrading exhaust.

I was going for headers more for the look, but i do need to get better flow, the car still has the original exhaust system and i would like to get as much flow as i can. Any suggestions will be very helpful.

Thornton sells the repro left side full size Olds manifold...there is also one on Ebay that I saw last night. The right side manifold is the same for single as well as dual exhaust cars. For duals the crossover port gets blocked/capped.

 

i have a set of the thorton repros on my car and they are perfect. i searched for headers for many years with no luck. none of the places mentioned above have headers for these cars. look up thorton reproductions online and grab the dual exhaust manifolds and go down to the local muffler shop and have yourself a set of pipes made. do not order pre-bent pipes online as you will find they do not fit. whatever spec those guys have (theres some book with standard bending measeurments they all use) they are wrong. have a set made and put on at a muffler shop and save yourself the headeach i went through....however the re-pro manifolds are an exact fit.

 

Factory dual exhaust cars that were column shifted automatics had the trans shift linkage modified to clear the left exhaust pipe. Maybe thats why there was a problem. A muffler shop can work around this or you could modify your linkage. A schematic on the proper shape linkage for dual exhaust cars can be found on 442.com

 

I also have the Thornton dual exhaust manifold, fit great and works awesome really woke the car up especially going from a single exhaust and a 2 bbl carb going to 4bbl carb and duals

 

I'm currently doing this same upgrade, Got the Elderbrock intake and carb. Also got the K&N Xstream air filter, I cant wait to get her back out on the road! Thanks for all the help I feel like i know the right direction to take the exhaust upgrade now.

 

this is an interesting method of making /designing your own headers--I am sure by mocking them up this way it would save time and cursing
