Harrison radiator baffle material?

Not sure if baffle is the correct term for the ‘leather’ material that covers gaps and directs air through the rad? Anyone know what a good material to use for that is? I need to fabricate some of those pieces to ensure the air is directed into and through the rad. Thanks guys.

Mike, GM used rubber, masticated with threads, as the basis for the baffles. Vendors such as Steele Rubber have the bulk material and may be willing to cut strips to your size specification (or sell you a big enough piece that you can to cut to size).

Because the masticated rubber deteriorates over time, I used black EPDM rubber sheet from Grainger and cut my own. It still looks perfect 23 years later. The disadvantage is that the surface is smooth instead of the bumpy look of the original material.

Gary - Great suggestion.

EPDM Weather-Resistant Rubber
They offer several grades & thicknesses.

Don't cheez out if you're trying to maintain the original look. Try this. I got some that were pre-cut for my 85 Cutlass 442 and they're perfect replacements. They'll probably outlast you if you're old like the rest of us.

I’ll check that link out. I just thought it would be best to get those pieces of rubber in place. It should help with the air getting through the rad I think? This Olds never had those pieces when it was given to me in 2010. It was missing LOTS of things and lots was just kinda just tinkered with and left. I will be 40 next April, but I do know that time has flown by, like everyone says. I’ll be an old guy in the blink of an eye, I just hope it’s not tomorrow.

Time was that Fusick sold the masticated rubber by the roll. I don’t know if they still do, but they did some 20 years back.

Worth a phone call.

But the smooth rubber, cut to fit, should work just as well so long as its stiff enough to force the air through the radiator core.

It will definitely help getting air thru the rad having all the rubber in place opposed to it not being there.

You could also check your local hardware store if you aren't doing a concours restoration.
