Fuel pump leaking oil..lots of it!
Hi. I have a 68 442 with a non numbers matching 455. Engine runs strong and purrs like a kitten. Lately I have noticed a substantial oil leak which has sprayed oil all over my suspension and radiator shroud. I have narrowed it down to the fuel pump which I tightened up bolts but continues to leak from that area. Does it need a new gasket or a entire new pump. Once again, it runs perfect right now. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m pretty sure the fuel pump lever is splash lubed by the timing chain, I don’t see how oil can be spraying from the gasket. Are you sure it’s not oil/gas spraying from the little vent hole? Does the oil smell like fuel? Is the oil level slowly going up?

Even a small leak at the fuel pump gasket would make a huge slobbery mess because the forced air from the fan would spray it everywhere. If it is just a gasket, it is a fairly simple repair. If you are leaking oil from the vent hole in the fuel pump, you need to replace the pump. There is a diaphragm inside that is supposed to isolate the engine oil from the gas and also keep the oil from leaking out. If any of the previously mentioned air, gas, or oil are being allowed to combine, that is a big issue. If fuel is getting into the crank case it will dilute your engine oil very quickly and destroy your bearings. Obviously if the oil is combining with air, it is getting out of the engine and making a mess. If the fuel is getting into the air, it is making a mess and possibly a fire hazard.

Wow, that is a bargain! Too bad it won't fit a SBO with AC. I tried a few years ago and the housing is just too tall.
