455 Oil pan gasket

Hey guys I've got one more thing to do to get my car safetied and the oil pan gasket is it. Can I do this job without taking out the engine. It's a 455 and I've no place to pull an engine out. This is my first time dealing with this gasket install so whatever advice you have would be extremely appreciative

It can be done in the car, but you have to remove one or both of the engine mounts and jack up the engine. DON'T support it by the balancer when doing do. Use a hoist or something sturdy to support the engine from above.

Has the timing chain been replaced? if you have to go through the trouble of raising the engine and removing the pan change the timing chain if it is the original. The worst thing about these chains, other that the top gear shedding nylon teeth, is dealing with the oil pan.

I don't agree.

If you want to do it right, the engine should come out.

Check the FSM, and see what it takes in the car.

I agree with the timing chain. The engine has to be raised ( which means unbolting the fan shroud and distributior cap, and you need to put the crank in a certain position so the counterweights will clear the pan.
