Fuel pump,to filter, to carb line

I saw several 50's / 60's vehicles at the Back to the 50's this weekend with steel fuel line from mechanical fuel pump to filter, at which point the fuel line transitioned to a small rubber chunk of hose on the inlet side of the filter, then again on the outlet of the filter, right to the carb with rubber again. I have steel line from the fuel pump to the glass bowl filter, then again from the filter to the carb inlet. Is there a reason people use rubber chunks in-line? Is using all steel line like I have, too rigid? Pros and cons of either? Thanks guys.

Rubber hose is the lazy way out. The factory used a solid metal line from pump to carb. The two parts don't move relative to each other.

True Joe, but some people do not have the ability to bend and/or fabricate steel line. Too bad for them.

So, I went about it the proper way then. Great to hear! Thanks for the input.
