freeze plug removal

I have a bare 455 block and I was removing the freeze plugs and rookie mistake one of them went inside and after rocking and shaking, the sucker is on one the ends and I doesnt want to come out.. yea, really silly stuff here.. I was able to see thru top of the head when I shine a light but I think it's stuck in there somewhere!!!

any neat tricks??? the block is going to the machine shop soon but I like to get it out prior so....

thx

just reach in there with a screwdriver and knock it loose then grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers and it'll come out...

I turn it sideways and use vise-grips on the flange.

I think he's saying it's deep in the water jacket somewhere. How about a magnetic probe?

They can't really go all that far. A magnet and/or needle nose pliers will get it back up. Just get a good grip on it and it'll come out sideways.

Last night I couldnt sleep so went to my basement, I was determined to get the freeze plug out....

so the darn thing was stuck, I forgot which side and where, so I started running a clothes wire through every possible surface, I kid you not, after about 40 minutes, bingo, it was staring at me from the opening of where the water pump would be...

it's smaller hole but I manage to pull it out by cutting it with pliers... and then went back to bed...

Now take the block to the machine shop and have those freeze plug holes threaded so it never happens again.
