Flow Cooler water pump?

Anybody use one of these FC 1775 pumps? For what it's worth and it may just pertain to race engines, Bill Travato doesn't like high flow water pumps, thinks they flow too much water. In fact he doesn't like mechanical water pumps at all, he likes electric water pumps which lead me to believe that his statements are indeed for race engines. So, anybody use the Flow Cooler or recommend any other good alum. water pump?....... thanks, Dave

The Flowkooler pump is a copy of the factory heavy duty cooling option closed impellar pump. Mine is 10 years old, basically a GMB aluminum made in Japan open impellar pump with a plate riveted on. The new ones have a CNC aluminum closed impellar and should be even better.

Flowcooler changed the impeller design a few years ago. The new ones are nicer and no more clearance issues with the timing cover. The pictures on their website do represent the current model.

I confirmed that running a water pump dry will lead to seal failure and squeals. This wasn't exactly a surprise.
Treat it well and run the engine occasionally and it'll be fine.

Be aware that the pump number above is for the 1971-newer vehicles that use a smaller diameter upper hose than the 1970-older engines.
