I know I've read all the threads and stories about SB being able to put out equal power if built right, but its the torque that gets me. After riding in a friends 442, it can't compare. I have a strong '69 350 in my car that runs great, but you guys know what a difference torque makes. I was able to find a 68 Toro motor for a good price. I was also able to get my engine sold for almost what I paid for the 455. I'll be pulling my engine and picking that one up this weekend. They guy also threw in a set of Comp Cams roller rockers with guide plates and pushrods. Is there anything I need to be look out for with this motor? I do know I'll have to change the oil filter housing. I'm sure I'll be back asking questions in the next cpl days... Wish me luck.

Thanks... I saw the car the engine was pulled from, had about 60k on it. I plan on changing all the gaskets. Installing a Moroso oil pump and pick up along with a new water pump and timing chain. I know doing all of this before install would make life a lot easier..LOL

 

Chad, I have a 425 block that needs an overbore here if you want it.
It's a 45 degree lifter bank so people have been avoiding it like the plague.
I can't even get a $50 spot for it, while Std bore 455 blocks are going for $100 on Craigslist.

 

I'll have to drop a line next time I'm in the area...but its been a long time since I've been that way. Rates have been in the gutter in chi town lately. All over actually. On a high note I just got my dually running again but that thing gets HORRENDOUS mileage.. Assuming I ever find an early 60's b body I can afford a 425 would be a sweet motorvator

how is this for sad, I have an86 supra I want to put a small block in. I can get a sbc 350 tbi with a 700r4 with an extra tranny for scrap rate...got no money

another guy has a bbo 455 a poncho 400 and a couple th400's for scrap...got no money

At least the guys I normally would be running my tail off for by now are starting to call, will be with them for the first half of the week any way, and all of the third week of july. hopefully more.

I picked my 68 Toro motor Sunday. My return trip was not without adventure as I had a blowout on my truck during the return trip. I'm going to pick up a gasket set, clean it up and start pulling it apart pretty soon. BTW, anyone know if it is necessary to change the pushrods if using the original cam with roller rockers? Asking because the guy included a new set of CompCams rollers with guide plates with the motor. He didn't have the pushrods though.

 

Yes you need to replace the pushrods with the roller rockers. They are usually purchased a part of a kit. Make sure you get the right ones for the 455. Check the compcam web site to get the right ones

 

I did see them on the site last night. I didn't know if I needed theirs or any hardened pushrod for a 455?

 

They are not the stock length. If you still have questions on the correct length. call the comp cam help line they will fix you up

I forgot to ask did the roller rockers and guild plates come with the required rocker studs, they need to be replaced as well
