In-expensive (cheap) HEI question
In-expensive (cheap) HEI question
I bought one of those chinesium HEI's last week and it will be a while before I get the opportunity to try it out. Anybody have any experience with these?
I bought two of them. Looking at the pieces inside kinda surprised me because they actually look pretty good. For the price, it isn't a bad unit. The advance seems to need some fine tuning, but most guys tailor the distributor to their specific engines. So far, neither has given me any problems---we'll see as time goes on.
I think for me it goes with out saying. I always carry a spare module in the glove box along with fuses etc. I think the only short comings of this dist. Is the electronics might be cheap but upgrading a chinesium hei is still cheaper then a brand name new hei. I bought the one on my dads for 25 bucks. The proform that's in my 72 cost 190. Just some food for tought.
They have nice looking new parts.
I had one and the curve was super fast and no matter what I was getting spark knock.
So I took all the goodies and rebuilt a stock dist and used stock weights and springs and no more spark knock and an excellent curve.
Chevy one are spot on and are drop in and go.

I keep one of those cheapies in my trunk as a spare. It has bailed me out a couple of times as the 10 year old components in my Mallory took turns biting the dust-pickup, then module & then the defective new module that replaced it.
Find no spark, pull out distributor, pop the cheapie in & back on my way in 10 minutes. Get to diag & fix my "good" distributor @ convenient time.
