Engine ID help

Hi all. I have taken pics of the stamped #s and the fact that it has E heads. The stampings look weird. Am I looking in the right place? Driver side pic. I know this engine is not original to the car. Can anyone tell me more?

E heads are 1970. The stamp on the block is not a normal VIN derivative, so this was not a factory-installed block. That stamp indicates either a service replacement block or a block originally from a non-automotive application (marine or industrial). What is the block casting number above the water pump?

A serif "F" is a 455 block, TYPICALLY from 1970-72, but not always. That's about all the info you can get from the outside of this motor.

Looks a lot like the stampings I posted recently. The one I posted was a service block replaced at a GM dealer. Both have the L I SB designation and upside down. To me, it’s just a way to track or identify a factory service block. It’s a GM rebuild. This one I got is .040” over with GM pistons.

Thanks, Joe. You rock! I can see from my minimal posts that you are one helluva olds guy. I'm still learning the navigation on this forum, bc I'm 71 yrs old.
