Date stamp on crank

I recently bought a 455 with G heads for my car. While tearing it down for delivery to the machine shop, I noticed the crank counterweight had "Feb 25 1971" stamped on it. Is this something that was done routinely during the assembly process? I'm only asking as I searched online and didn't see any mention of it. Thought it was interesting and maybe other members will too.
