Connecting Rod Issue

455, Eagle H beam rods - part no. CRS673503D
The two photos below show where the No 1 rod, just installed, is making contact with the bottom of the cylinder wall edge on the inboard side of the engine.
One photo shows the rotation one way, the other is the other direction of rotation.

Would it be reasonable, or the correct action, to take a burr and grind off enough of the bottom edge of the cylinder wall for the rod to pass?
If so how much room or clearance should I give it?
Or is there another solution?

Yes, and that's the only solution. I believe .060" is the minimum, but please verify.

Yes you’ll need to grind the block there. Next time you might want to consider the Scat rods instead. They don’t require block clearancing.

.060 is the rule of thumb but you can get away with less. I have run .020 counterweight to piston pin boss clearance with no evidence of contact after running. It wouldn't be my target number but it works.

Thanks for verifying that Chad, I'd bet the 455 block cylinders squirm around enough to stay on the higher side of safety and I can see where other applications, or areas, could be tighter also.
I'd like to see the side by side difference btw the Scat and Eagle rods. Should be enough for a measurable diff in big end weight too.

This weekend I plan on grinding the block where needed and was wondering is there a specific total amount I should aim for.
Am I looking to grind away 1/8" or 1/4"?
Just looking for a starting point from someone who has done it.

Does anyone know what the SCAT rod weight is in comparison to the Eagle H-beams? I know that the Eagle weight is about 795 grams per rod.

Is there a I beam or H beam that doesn’t need to have the block clearanced? Stock stroke. Thanks
