comp cams 42-225-4

i got a bunch of parts for my build super cheap and this comp cams cam and lifters came with the lot
im aware there are better cams but since i already have this one im considering using it
would this be a decent cam to run?
has anyone ever used one of these in their build?
im going to be getting my c heads rebuilt but probably not ported

Wow, that looks like a lotta cam. What are your build parameters? Compression, carb, intake, exhaust, torque converter, rear gear, etc?

im in the very early stages of this build
i havent sent my block to be machined and if i didnt score a bunch of parts today for a steal i wouldnt be gathering parts yet but
i have an edelbrock performer intake
i dont have a carb yet but i was thinking probably holley 850
im most likely gonna bore the block .30 over and use speed pro L2323F 30 stock rods
rebuilt c heads

i dont know what headers will fit my 85 delta 88 yet either
but probably use a 2.5 inch dual exhaust kit for 1996 impala

If you’re going to stay with that camshaft, scratch the speed pro pistons and stock rods. Use a better piston and rod that’ll give you the 10+:1 compression and reliability you’ll need. I’d make sure you have a decent gear in that rig as well.

The factory W-30 cam had 240 duration at .050, so the cam you have is comparable but with a lot more lift. Get rid of the performer intake, look for a Torker or Air Gap if you can get it under the hood. Deck the block, mill the heads, run thin head gaskets, or a combination of all to get the compression up.

But it wasn’t trying to haul around a Full size Olds either.
And because of that I absolutely wouldn’t use anything other than a regular performer intake.

That cam grind probably won’t produce much vacuum for power brakes.

I had a 83 Delta 88, I don’t remember what it weighed. I do know it ran very well with the worn out 71 350 engine. Pretty sure there is t much difference between a 83 and 85.

You’re right, pretty similar. But it’s still a heavy car and I don’t think there’s much choice in gears either.
id build for a bit more low end, even with a 455.
