Cam Shaft

You will also nwant to use at least Comp Cams steel roller tip rockers or even full roller rockers with a cam with this much lift. If you go much over .500 lift youre asking for trouble with stock rocker set-up. You better have a 4speed or at least a 3000 stall converter to run this cam on the street! ( MOO)

Anyway you slice it --- you should have a good cam "expert" analyze your "needs" and all of your factors in determining what is best for your desired results. Car weight, tire size, headers or no, rear gears, intake and carb, coupled with "what you want to do with it" all are factors when selecting a cam! Ultradyne and Bullet cams are my choice when it comes to having your needs "diagnosed" and the correct cam selected for your car. A lot of companies have a "hot line" about cam choice and all they know is cheby and the think those grinds will be OK for OLDS ---wrong!!! Ultradyne and Bullet KNOW OLDSMOBILE!!! (MOO!)

This is a nice 4 speed cam -- especially with the 107 LSA!! But I would never use it for a customer unless he wanted to go with a converter!! ( MOO)

I would suggest at least "one step smaller" than this cam. Contrary to what they say in their ad -- ( unless you "read into" their message) this cam does NOT work well with a stock converter!! In their ad they say it works "better" with at least a 2000 converter. 296 is too big for a stock converter!

Hi Guys...this is fairly new to me. What happens if I run the stock converter. How would I know what kind of converter I have? Ans what will upgrading to a 3000 converter give me.

What I have is a 455 stock engine out of a 68 Delta 88 so I really do not have any specs. I want to put this in a 70 cutlass supreme and am wondering what is a good combination for a cam, manifold and carburator to have some good street performance. I emailed Jebs and they came back with the equivlant to what eldbrock offeres for the top end kit but I am learning here that the cam was too aggresive.

220/228 on a 110, with .504 lift. It's stock valvetrain friendly and will give great midrange torque as well as work with a stock converter. Plus you will hear it a little as well. If you have a gear that's 3.08 or numerically higher you'll be fine.

You can use a carbide bur in a die grinder to lengthen the slot in the rocker to allow more lift, but the retainer to seal/guide clearance probably will need work too, either milling down the guides, using different retainers with less downward protrusion, and/or seals with thinner tops. Stock rockers with the slots lengthened will work with over .6 lift, but I wouldn't go over about 400 lb. valve spring pressure open with them if you want them to live a long time.

I run an Engle 20-22 cam in my 4 speed 70 442.
It is 226/230 with a 110 LSA.
Has a nice lumpy idle, and pulls really good.
Use Comp roller tip rockers with it.
Made 400 HP on the dyno, and has great street manners.

Engle or Mondello, they can be mechanically noisy though.
Check out Chadmans response.
