Carb Advice Needed

Hi all
I'm running a 60's 400 with Edlebrock performer heads and inlet manifold, I have been told it has had a cam change but could not confirm this as I havent done any of engine work, the existing QFT Slayer carb is leaking lots, she wont idle at all and there are no numbers on it whatsoever to try and I.D it for a rebuild kit. So it looks like I'm in the market for a new carb, any advice on what to go for would be greatly appreciated?

TIA
Aaron

More info needed. Early 65-67 400 or 68-69 400? What intake? Is intake for spreadbore or square bore?

You also might call the Summit tech hotline to get help IDing your carburetor.

https://help.summitracing.com/app/contactus/

I'm surprised there aren't any ID marks on the carburetor. FWIW, I have one of the Summit carburetors on my 71 98 that works pretty well. It's just a clone of the old Holley 4010.

Any std Holley/QFT kit will work with that carb.

thanks cutlassefi.
I’m confused when searching as each kit looks very different. Could you pop a link up to a standard Holley kit please?

Why not just contact Holley and ask them ?????? The Slayer just looks like your typical Holley with center hung floats so like Mark said any kit for that type carb "should" work. Is yours vacuum secondary ?

By the way and no offense to Olds64 but i would not trust Summit's tech advice very much. I have seen more wrong answers than right.

I am partial to AED kits.

Post a picture of your carb. That will determine for sure which kit you need. Just noticed you location so its probably kind of hard to call Holley

No offense taken Bill. I've only ever called the Summit tech line once or twice. I think it was to get some dimensions when I ordered the Eagle Alloy wheels I put on my 71. FWIW, I've been let down many times by parts store employees.

Very true. That is why I pretty much stick to looking everything up myself either in paper or online catalogs from the actual manufacturer. I don't know if I can really blame the parts store guys or not. There are SO many different variations of part now days the you simply have to look them up.

Here we go again.

In general what I have seen is that people want a one word fix or some magic part and Viola! it works like a fire breathing race car, also gets 100 mpg , etc

The components all have to work together..

without knowing the Cam specs, Distributor curve, Compression ratio , headers, etc etc one cannot determine on what to advise properly.

How are you going to use the car plays into too?? Full race, cruizer, street and strip.. all tradeoffs..

People think, I'll put in these race car parts, it's gotta be better. but understand they are designed for full throttle performance and not regular street driving..

From what I have read over the years, the tried and true well tuned Quadrajet is hard to beat overall in terms of performance and economy and driveability. They get dis'd as most people don't know how to tune them..

Once again all the components all have to play together.

Wanna learn how to tune Quadrajets? , look here:
