cam help!

I have been a fan of this site for sometime now so I decided to join. I'm looking for some cam recommendations from some of you experienced engine builders out there.I'm in the process of building my 455. The car is primarily street driven with an occasional trip to the track. Here is some info... 461 c.i with 2323F pistons...stock "N" crank and rods... "out of the box" edelbrocks and performer intake (undicided on carb.).... As for the car, it's a '70 Cutlass with 3.91 gears and a 2500 stall converter with power brakes and want to retain the factory A/c. Hoping for a solid 12 second car. If more info. needed, I will do my best. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Comp Cams XE274 would work, and is the same basic size as the original 308 deg. W30-W31 cam but with quicker ramps for a broader power range.

From: from Wisc, then Texas, then Kansas, now back to Texas,
Comp cam reps are usually pretty good at recommending the rite cam. I had the best luck talking with the ' Mendellos' in Calf. I had the pleasure of dealing with Joe Mendello . (and his son ). They were very helpful thru out my build. I used the cam setup , and bearings, gaskets , etc, he suggested, and , I am totally satisfied !

Hmmm., my experience with the Comp reps has been spotty at best. That's why I now do my own stuff and offer the same to everyone here.

Given your combination I'd do an Erson 232/240@.050 on a 112. With the L2323 pistons you have barely 10.0:1 so I'm not sure I'd go much bigger than that, although the 3.91 gear helps.

Back in the day... (about 25 yrs. ago) Idid speak to Joe Mondello about my current small block set-up. Im running the Jm-20-22 can in the 350 and I'm happy with that... which I was considering the JM-22-25 for the 455. Any feed back on that grind?

Also to cutlassefi.... I noticed you have been very helpful to many on this site with great feedback. I also open to one of your custom grinds if you think I can benefit from one. I know a camshaft is the heart and soul of an engine and I just want the right one.. THanks for everyones input!!

I'm confident the cam I mentioned would perform better than the Mondello grind.
The larger Mondello/Engle grinds tend to get noisy and imo opinion don't offer enough lift to make best use of the Edelbrock heads.

Lift is .568 on both. Yes, you'll be fine on power brakes.

Any advice for a cam upgrade for my 69 442 Sports coupe? It has a.c, power steering and disc brakes. I plan on running long tube headers but basicly stock other than that. I read the stock cam that came in the sports coupes sacked

An 850 something. I prefer the Quick Fuel stuff but that's your call.

cutlassefi... how about something in a roller set-up? It may seem I'm all over the map with a cam decision, but just exploring my options. Thanks
