Big block valve stem length ?

I was comparing a intake valve from a '65 400 A head to a intake I have from a '68 C head. The C head valve is just under 1/4 longer.
The question is, what did Olds change to accommodate the extra length?
Is the pad on the head where the rockers bolt down taller on the C head?
Has anyone out there ever put the later valves in the early head?

Rob, I'm sorry I can't answer your question. I did move your thread to the appropriate forum though.
