I know its been discussed before, but I just purchased a real OILITE bronze pilot bushing from Auto Gear Equipment in Syracuse for my rebuilt 69 442 400ci. Cost was $18. I put it in freezer over night and it went in with resistance but moved with every hit of the hammer. If you're looking for the correct one, give Nathan a call at 315.471.8141. He was very knowledgeable and helpful.
BTW: I bought the Dorman one first. Its a few thousandths too large and is definitely not OILITE Bronze.
Oilite Bronze is a sintered, porous material that holds oil. It is a bit softer than normal "bronze".
Hint: Freeze the bushing AND driver you will use. Handle bushing with gloves to keep the surrounding air away. Line it up and give it a good smack with a good sized hammer. The minute the bushing touches the crankshaft, it can begin to "grow" (get bigger).
Test the bushing I.D. with a shaft to make sure you didn't roll material inside the pilot hole.
