ARP main studs
ARP main studs
I installed ARP main studs in my 425 Toro block and had to dimple my oil pan(non Toro) to get to sit down on the block. Anybody else used these and have this problem?

This engine was rebuilt by a commercial rebuilder in 1986 and has been on the stand ever since. If it was align honed then, I do not know. I removed the crank to have it bored for a pilot bearing. Nevertheless, the reason I used the studs was, one of the main bolts has a rust ring around the top of the threads and I did not trust using it. As far as needing to be align honed now, after installing the crank and torqueing the nuts to proper setting, the crank spins without any resistance.
I just had studs installed in my block. The align hone was definitely necessary. The other thing to check are the bolt holes in the thrust bearing main cap. The main studs are bigger around than bolts so the machinist had to open up the holes slightly otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to set the thrust bearing flat on both sides. This cap needs to be able to move a little for good installation.
