Another 455 rear main seal question

Installing the Felpro 460 Ford rear seal today. I notice the seal seats nicely in the cap but the ends are a little too long? When I flush out 1 side the other end is .070" proud of the cap. Is this ok? Seems like a lot of squish

Yes, that is normal. Squishing the ends of the seal together is how you prevent leakage through the split line. Offset the parting line on the seal about five degrees relative to the split line on the cap.

I am using the Felpro 2948. I hear there is also a bs40032 part?
Did I order the wrong seal?

The application seems to be correct. I don't know what the difference is between 2984 and 40032. Both are Viton. I've used the latter.
