aluminum intake with hei

Hello can anyone tell me if they make an aluminum intake that will take the hei distributor? Reason being I bought an hei and it won't fit in the edelbrock intake I have on my car. Thanks

I'm using the Edel 3711 with HEI, no problems. How does it not fit, exactly?

And have you actually been on a Bigfoot expedition?!

I'd have to check the numbers on the manifold. The distributor won't slide all the way Down as it hits the manifold. And yes I have been on an expedition in the Adirondacks. lol! was a lot of fun

The cap hits the manifold so it won't let the distributor slide all the way down

I have used the 3711 Performer 350 and 7111 Performer RPM with the same HEI and no clearance issues. Since we're in the Big Block forum I'm not sure our experiences with Small Blocks translates to the OP's issue.

Until we get further information, the only manifold that I can think of is the older Edelbrock O4b that might cause that problem.

Grinding a little in the right spot should take care of it. You only need a little room.

Although the one I bought off of eBay says that it fits 350 and 455. So do most of the others.

Well I've decided to put in a points distributor with pertronix ignition. Figured would be the easiest solution

Does it have a number on it? An HEI should work with a standard performer manifold.

I'll have to look at the number can't remember it won't slide all the way down the distributor shaft as it hits the manifold

Fyi

The factory W-455 intake works fine with HEI. I have been running that set up on my 1972 W-30 for 20 years

An HEI will not work with an 04B manifold. You will have to use a points distributor and/ or convert it to an electronic.

Yea I'm assuming because it's an older manifold.

I just picked up a pertronix ignition and coil as my brother had a new points distributor.

Here is a video of an Olds 455 with the O4B using an HEI. It might not work in every application given certain tolerances. A little grinding might do it though.

Thanks I would love to be able to use my brand new hei ignition but I'll probably just go with the standard ignition.

How much did he have to grind off? I was always under the impression that it just won't fit.
