Aftermarket manifold hood clearance...

So, looking at my options for aftermarket intake for my 75 455 olds that's going in a 72 cutlass with the air ram hood, its seems that there is no aftermarket intake that'll sit low enough for my hood (according to websites). Before I special order something and deal with the problem later... and perhaps get too "creative" I wanted to ask you guys if you had ran into this problem and how did you remedy this issue or if this is even an issue at all.

I've heard things like shaving down the carburetor deck down to satisfy hood clearance or running no air filter at all (which I dont know how I feel about that yet... especially cause I want it to be a driver)

I'm not looking for anything super crazy just a dual plain aluminum, idle-to-mid rpm street setup.

Are you planning to use a factory style OAI air cleaner housing, or just the hood? If you don't use the air cleaner then there won't be any clearance issues.

Of course, that also defeats the purpose of using an O.A.I. hood...

As for aftermarket intakes, the only one proven to work with a BBO is the long-out-of-production Edelbrock O4B. Used ones show up on ebay frequently. Note that they came in both Holley and Qjet versions.

Edelbrock's O4B

that one worked on my 72 w/455 and OAI hood.
FWIW in case you've considered it, I've heard that using the OAI hood without the accompanying air cleaner may create back pressure reducing the air flowing thru the radiator.

If you're willing to modify your airlceaner base you can go all the way up to a Torker and still run the factory breather.
