71 delta 88 455 fuel pump gasket??? UPDATE..PICS

I want to replace the gasket in my fuel pump....I went to napa today and the guy gave me two gaskets and both look to be wrong!!

Is there any trick to removing the pump other than removing the bottom bolt and top nut .......and does anyone have a part # for the proper gasket!!

Thanks

Should look like this...

How does yours compare? These are pretty standard for Olds V8s.

Remove the fuel lines first, then take the bolts out a little at a time, alternating from top to bottom.
I think you should rotate the crankshaft at the balancer bolt so that the eccentric is away from the actuator arm (for least pressure on the atuator arm).
NOTE where the arm goes and how the pump 'tilts' as it comes off so you know how to put the new one back in.
Use some permatex on the new gasket before installation but clean the mounting surfaces with thinner and alcohol before hand.

Autozone shows availability of this item over the counter for $1.59. If NAPA doesn't have it, any of the next five auto parts stores you might stop in certainly should.

You should look in your Chassis Service Manual.

Observe that in this picture, the fuel pump actuator arm is resting on the "low side" of the eccentric, minimizing the force on the arm.

Around here, NAPA gets $24 to $28, depending on the exact pump.

I have read some where if you bring number one cylinder to TDC, this will make it easier to install the fuel pump. Is this true? on a 72 olds 455.

It's been a long time since I installed a fuel pump, but if you can look into the hole with the pump out, just make sure the low spot on the lobe is on the top and you should be good to go.
