7040251 Quadrajet Question

I just picked up a 7040251 Quadrajet for possible rebuild and install on my 1970 442 with a 455. Auto & A/C I found that it is the correct carb for a 1970 350-455 and I know its not exactly the correct carb, but it has a date code of 2266 that seems strange.

Can anyone provide possible discrepancy between a 7040251 carb with a 2266 date code which I think shows a 1966 year build??

Well, first, '251 is not the "correct" carb for a 350. It was used on 455s with AT in full size cars, Cutlii, and 442s. 2266 is the 226th day of 1976 (Friday, Aug 13, 1976 to be exact). This is a service replacement carb.

Thanks Joe, the info I found that it would be the 'correct' carb for a 350 engine was one of those carburetor websites, which I do understand are not always accurate. What is the correct carb number for a 1970 350 engine?

1970 350 should be a 7040250 while the 1970 455 should be a 7040251

Isn’t the 1971 supposed to be 7041250?

Yes, for a 1971 350. What is the relevance?

The fourth digit in Rochester carb numbers is the model year (well, at least until the mid-70s)
