70 cutlass 455 swap

Hey guys, I know its been awhile since I last posted but i'm here to give you an update. First, Iv'e been driving the car for a year now and I love it but the 350 that was in it began having problems. when I would first start the car when it was cold the oil psi was at 40 but as the car got up to operating temp. the oil pressure would drop down to about 5 psi, but this year me and my dad found a 455 that was being sold by Thornton muscle cars. He had a 455 out of a 76 that had been rebuilt with a few mild upgrades. Now I know that the 76 motors aren't the best when it comes to performance but this deal was just too good to pass up and it wasn't completely stock either. We got the engine and a trans for 1,000 bucks. Before he gave us the engine he had repainted it and put on the first pair of custom headers he had been working on that are designed to be able to work with the stock exhaust setup, and I would highly recommend them to anyone as they fit perfectly on the engine and bolt up with ease to the pipes. Also, the motor has after market pistons in it, a mild cam and an edelbrock aluminum performer intake. (WILL BE POSTING PICTURES SOON)

Very cool, look forward to the pictures. I bet its a marked improvement over the 350. By the way, tires are very expensive...

looks great! i can tell you first hand that 1976 455 is no slouch ,we put e-heads .decent cam ,aluminum intake and wz manifolds on mine .retained the original low compression pistons but it is one fun car to drive.

Mitchy would you happen to know if there was any work done to the heads ? And which pistons were used ? Curious for an upcoming build of my own ,

I'll be swapping my small block for the 455 I just built (into my '71). How's the butt-dyno? I'm excited.....and terrified!

Eagles fan in the picture! You or your Dad or friend?
I will be pulling my 455/TH400 out soon for a re-do and will have to deal with the same space limitations you have. Plus I never have done an engine on a car- turbine aircraft yes, cars no.
Looks like you just backed it out every time to work on it.
Like your engine & trans dollies- good idea I will act on.

I wish my garage was that big. I sure do miss my old 16' x 37' garage.

I love my tiny little work space. Two paces to any tool. Of course my knees and elbows pay a steep price and I can only rehab one part at a time and then put it back on, but, you know.....

The small garage is nice and convenient but sometimes we'd love a bigger place
